Sportshall Lahr

The Bürgerpark in Lahr was laid out in the 19th century as the main recreation space for the city. Over the intervening years many sports facilities were added to the gardens. This competition entry for a large sports centre will replace an existing facility. The programme provides for a dedicated 3-bay standard sports hall with an additional multi-purpose hall of similar size that can be used for sports as well as a wide range of community activities. Ancillary functions such as foyer and changing rooms are arranged to allow a simple functional split of the building, providing for two functions to run independent and parallel. The main volumes are slipped to create two entrance locations to the southeast and northwest. The hall roof is a folded plate of solid laminated timber construction providing both structural span and roof decking in a single move with an acoustically efficient and attractive visual underside.
